(18) Women's Volleyball Hosts the OU Invitaitonal this Weekend

Ottawa defeated Missouri Valley College 3-2 but fell 3-0 to no. 6 Park University last Saturday in Parkville, Mo. In the win over MVC, Ottawa had 58 kills, a .292 attacking percentage, 52 assists, six service ace, 67 digs, and 18 team blocks. In the loss to Park, the Braves had 40 kills, a .150 attacking percentage, 37 assists, two service aces, 53 digs and five team blocks.

For the third straight week, Radaisy Valdez has been named KCAC Attacker of the Week. The junior middle blocker had 56 kills, a .510 attacking percentage, one service ace, 10 digs, and 18 blocks in three matches last week. She had 19 kills and a .613 attacking percentage vs. no. 7 Missouri Baptist University and 16 kills and a .500 attacking percentage against no. 6 Park University. She averaged 18.6 kills per match and 4.3 kills per set.

Through 12 matches this season, Ottawa is averaging 12.6 kills per set, 11.7 assists per set, 2.2 blocks per set, 1.2 service aces per set, and 15.2 digs per set. The Braves have a .222 attacking percentage. This weekend Ottawa will have played its 10th and 11th nationally ranked opponent. OU has a record of 5-4 in those matches this season. The Braves are now ranked no. 18 in the latest NAIA Women's Volleyball Coach Top 25 Poll.

Ottawa is ranked 39th in the NAIA in total attacks (1,653), 31st in attacking percentage (.222), 29th in assists (542), 40th in assists per set (11.7), 50th in receptions (865), 32nd in solo blocks (28), 22nd in block assists (148), 16th in total blocks (102), 29th in blocks per set (2.2), 48th in ball handling errors (11), 33rd in points (742) and 46th in points per set (16.1).

OU has a record of 12-2 against (RV) Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The Braves have won nine straight matches against the Eagles. The Braves have a record of 4-1 in Wilson Field House against the Eagles and have won four straight at home versus OKWU. The first meeting between the two teams happened on Sept. 19, 2015 in Bartlesville, Okla. Ottawa won the match 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 29-27).

Radaisy Valdez leads the Braves in kills with 185. She is averaging 4.02 kills per set. Ryleigh Sander is OU's leader in assists with 285. In OU's 6-2 offense, she is averaging 6.20 assists per set. Sander is also leading the team in service aces per set (0.3). Jadore Hayes is the team's leader in digs with 188. She is averaging 4.09 digs per set. Valdez also leads the Braves in blocks with 54. She is averaging 1.17 blocks per set.

Ottawa is 7-2 in conference openers under head coach Melissa Blessington. This is the first time that OU has opened KCAC play against Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

The Braves have a record of 5-2 against William Woods University. Ottawa has won five straight matches against the Owls. OU won the two meetings last season, taking 3-0 wins on Sept. 16 in Ottawa and Oct. 14 in Des Moines, Iowa. WWU won the first two meetings between the two teams, defeating OU 2-0 (14-16, 10-15) on Sept. 14, 1991 at the Avila Tournament and 3-2 (25-23, 15-25, 25-23, 21-25, 11-15) on Sept. 8, 2012 at the Baker Tournament.

Ottawa has a record of 1-6 against no. 10 Columbia College. The Cougars have won six straight matches against the Braves. Columbia won both meetings last year, taking a 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 14-25, 19-25) victory over the Braves on Sept. 19 in Columbia and winning the Nov. 19 match up in the NAIA Opening Round 3-0 (22-25, 19-25, 20-25). Ottawa won the first meeting between the two teams on Sept. 14, 1990 at the Avila University Tournament, 2-1 (14-16, 15-13, 15-7).

Oklahoma Wesleyan University is 10-2 to start the 2023 season and the Eagles are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Women's Volleyball Coaches Top 25 Poll. OKWU opened the season with three straight wins. The Eagles then lost two straight, College of Saint Mary and Hastings College (3-0). Since that last loss on Aug. 25 against Hastings, OKWU has won seven straight matches and enter Friday's contest against OU coming off a 3-0 win over College of the Ozarks on Sept. 7.

Through 12 matches, OKWU is averaging 13.3 kills per set, 12.4 assists per set, 1.7 blocks per set, 2.1 service aces per set, and 15.6 digs per set. Oklahoma Wesleyan has a .266 attacking percentage. The Eagles are ranked 12th in the NAIA in kills per set (13.3), eighth in attacking percentage (.266), 12th in assists per set (12.4), 40th in service aces (87), 31st in service aces per set (2.1), eighth in solo blocks (38), third in blocking errors (39), and 13th in points per set (17.3).

Evelyn Rohrberg leads OKWU in kills with 183. She is averaging 4.8 kills per set. Allison Howards is the team's leader in assists (279) and she is averaging 6.9 assists per set. Rohrberg is also the team's leader in service aces per set (0.6). Andjela Micunovic is OKWU's leader in digs with 162. She is averaging 4.05 digs per set. Tijana Stojiljkovic is the Eagles' leader in blocks with 30 and she is averaging 0.8 blocks per set.

William Woods University has an overall record of 10-1 and is on a four match winning streak after falling 3-1 to Aquinas (Mich.) on Aug. 26. Since that loss, the Owls have defeated Culver-Stockton 3-0, York University 3-0, Evangel 3-2, and Briar Cliff 3-1. WWU is averaging 12.8 kills per set, 11.8 assists per set, 2.1 blocks per set, 1.1 service aces per set, and 16.6 digs per set. The Owls have a .209 attacking percentage.

WWU is ranked 30th in the NAIA in kills per set (12.8), 45th in attacking percentage (.209), 36th in assists per set (11.8), 25th in block assists (145), 32nd in total blocks (91), 33rd in blocks per set (2.1), and 50th in points per set (16). Kassidy Phillips leads the team in kills (138) and is averaging 3.2 kills per set. Erin Treis is WWU's leader in assists with 247. She is averaging 5.8 assists per set. Lauren Adams is the Owls leader in service aces per set (0.2). Emmalee Cook leads the team in digs (158) and is averaging 3.7 digs per set. Adams is the team's leader in blocks (45) and is averaging 1.07 blocks per set.

Columbia College has a record of 11-2 to start the 2023 season and is ranked no. 10 in the latest NAIA Women's Volleyball Coaches Top 25 Poll. The Cougars two losses this year came on Aug. 26 against Indiana Wesleyan University (3-1) and Viterbo University (3-0). CC enters Saturday's matches coming off a 3-0 win over Evangel University.

Through 13 games, the Cougars are averaging 13.8 kills per set, 13.2 assists per set, 1.4 blocks per set, 1.8 service aces per set, and 16.1 digs per set. CC has a .259 attacking percentage. Columbia is ranked 26th in the NAIA in kills (594), seventh in kills per set (13.8), 11th in attacking percentage (.259), 24th in assists (568), third in assists per set (13.2), 24th in solo blocks (30), 35th in points (737), and 17th in points per set (17.1).

Allana Capella leads CC in kills with 129 and she is averaging three kills per set. Luisa Ferreira is the team's leader in assists (456) and assists (10.86) per set. Ana Oro is the Cougars' leader in service aces per set (0.5). Ellie Rockers is the team's leader in digs with 119. She is averaging 2.9 digs per set.
