OTTAWA, Kan. – The (18) Ottawa University women's volleyball team opened KCAC play with a 3-2; 25-18, 26-24, 18-25, 13-25, 16-14; win over (RV) Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Friday afternoon in Wilson Field House. The win was OU's 10
th straight over the Eagles and the Braves fifth straight win over OKWU in Wilson Field House.
How it Happened
- Ottawa took a 12-8 lead over OKWU in set one after a Radaisy Valdez kill. The Braves held the Eagles in check for the remainder of the set, taking the 25-18 victory.
- In set two, the Braves fell behind 15-6. Ottawa chipped away at the OKWU lead. After a block by Chaney Barth and Blythe Manson and an OKWU attacking error, the Braves tied the set at 20 all. The Eagles scored the next point to retake the lead, 21-20. Ottawa answered by scoring the next three points, taking a 23-21 lead on an OKWU attacking error. The Eagles responded with a 3-0 run, retaking the lead 24-23. Ottawa ended the set with two kills by Katelyn Elstun and a kill by Valdez to take the 26-24 victory.
- Ottawa had a 6-3 lead in set three after a block by Kira Cherry. OKWU rallied and had a 13-8 lead over the Braves. OU was not able to rally and OKWU took the 25-18 victory.
- OU scored the first three points of set four. OKWU answered with a 9-1 run to take a 9-4 lead over the Braves. Ottawa was not able to recover, and Oklahoma Wesleyan took the 25-13 victory.
- Oklahoma Wesleyan was the first team to eight in set five. After the teams switched sides, the Eagles extended their lead to 9-6 over OU and the Braves took a timeout. Ottawa came out of that timeout scoring the next seven points, taking a 13-9 lead on a Valdez kill. OKWU responded with a run of its own, outscoring OU 5-1 to tie the set at 14 all. Ottawa retook the lead on a Valdez kill, 15-14. On the next point, Cherry blocked an Eagle kill attempt, giving OU the 16-14 victory.
