WINFIELD, Kan. – The (23) Ottawa University women's volleyball team defeated Southwestern College 3-0; 25-17, 25-19, 25-14; on Wednesday night in Stewart Field House. The win is OU's 30
th straight over the Moundbuilders and the Braves have won 24 straight sets against Southwestern.
How it Happened
- Ottawa scored the first six points of set one. Southwestern rallied, cutting OU's lead to 8-6. A service ace by Madison Brauner gave the Braves an 11-6 lead. Kills by Radaisy Valdez and Katelyn Elstun pushed the Brave lead to 17-12. OU held the Moundbuilders in check for the remainder of the set, taking the 25-17 victory.
- Back-to-back kills by Chaney Barth and a SWC attacking error gave OU a 7-5 lead over Southwestern in set two. SWC rallied and took an 11-9 lead over the Braves. Ottawa answered with a 6-1 run, taking a 15-12 lead. The Braves increased their lead to 19-12 on a kill by Valdez. Southwestern chipped away at the Brave lead and were within 22-19. Ottawa responded by scoring the final three points of the set to take the 25-19 victory.
- The Braves opened set three with five straight points. A SWC attacking error and a kill by Kira Cherry gave OU an 11-5 lead. Kills by Valdez and Barth, along with a Kennedi Wyrick service ace increased the OU lead to 14-6. OU never surrendered its lead, taking the 25-14 victory.
