LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's basketball team moved its win streak to four games with an 89-77 victory over the University of Saint Mary on Wednesday night at the Ryan Sports Center.
After trailing 12-7 to open the first half, Ottawa put together an 11-0 run to take an 18-12 lead over Saint Mary. The Spires scored the next for points to cut OU's lead to 18-16. The Braves answered with a 7-0 run and after a 3-pt field goal by
Deondre Buggage, led 25-16.
USM did not go away and with 4:10 left in the half, cut OU's lead to 25-21. The Braves responded by ending the half on a 17-4 run, taking a 42-25 lead into the locker room.
For most of the first 13 minutes of the second half, Ottawa had a double digit lead. Saint Mary was able to cut the Brave lead single digits and with 7:29 left in the contest, led 72-63.
Ottawa answered by pushing its lead back to double figures. A basket by Hibbitt with 4:22 remaining in the second half gave the Braves an 84-68 lead. The Spires did not allow OU to run away with the game and were within eight points with 1:21 on the clock.
That is all the closer the Spires would get to the Braves. Ottawa held USM scoreless in the final minute of the game, taking the 89-77 victory.
