Men's Basketball Falls to No. 6 Southwestern, 95-75

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's basketball had its four game winning streak broken with a 95-75 loss to no. 6 Southwestern College on Saturday night in Wilson Field House.

A 3-pt field goal by Jayden Hibbitt and a basket from Deondre Buggage gave the Braves a 5-0 lead over Southwestern in the opening minutes of the first half. The Moundbuilders responded with a 21-10 run and with 12:36 left in the half, had a 21-15 lead over OU.

Ottawa did not go away and chipped away at the Southwestern lead. The Braves cut the deficit to 35-32 after a Buggage basket at the 5:18 mark. The Moundbuilders, however, were able to push its lead back to double digits and led 48-38 with a little more than a minute to go in the half. Ottawa cut the deficit to seven on a 3-pt field goal by Buggage, 48-41 but SWC scored the final three points of the half, taking a 51-41 lead into the locker room.

Southwestern pushed its lead to 13 points at the start of the second half. But OU did not wilt and were within seven points, 62-55, after an Amil Fields basket with 13:13 left in the contest.
