Ottawa University Track and Field: Setting the Pace for Championship Success
As the indoor track and field season marches towards the climax of the conference championships, the Ottawa University teams are demonstrating a remarkable blend of skill, dedication, and record-breaking performances. The recent results from the Wendy's Invitational are a testament to our athletes' hard work, especially our men's team, which set a new school record in the 4x400m relay, an event highlighted by the remarkable talent of three underclassmen.
Men's Team: Breaking Records and Raising Bars
The men's team has shown exceptional prowess, particularly in the 4x400m relay. The team, comprising sophomores Athens Fawkes and senior Kayron Johnson, alongside freshmen Chase Hight and Domonic Atkinstall, clocked an impressive time smashing the previous school record by 3 seconds. This performance, spearheaded by young talent, showcases our team's future potential and current strength.
In individual events, our athletes continued to shine. Senior Kayron Johnson's performance in the 60m hurdles was a highlight, clocking another solid time of 8.45s, and just missing out on a loaded final. In the high jump, Junior Hadyn Bieling soared to 1.93m, reaffirming his place among the university's top athletes.
Women's Team: Demonstrating Resilience and Growth
Our women's team, showcased resilience and individual brilliance. In the 400 meters, sophomore JayOnna Perry clocked a personal best of 58.16s, an inspiring performance that places her second on the all-time list for Ottawa University. In shot put, senior Deja Delaine's throw of 13.18m was not just a massive personal record but also etched her name in the third spot in the university's all-time list followed closely by Senior Karley Faudere. Senior Jaine Johnson is just off her personal best mark in the weight throw as she inches closer towards the top spot in the KCAC Weight Throw.
