McPherson, Kan. - The Ottawa women's soccer team picked up their first road win of the season as they defeated McPherson 5-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Ottawa wasted no time in scoring, with Makayla Remanente-Bailey finding the back of the net in the fourth minute. Lightning struck twice in the ninth minute, when Remanente-Bailey scored her second goal of the game. In the 13th minute, Liv Staberg followed that up, assisted by Ashby Owen. Riley Smith scored her first collegiate goal in the 42nd minute, assisted by Kyndel Adams. This gave Ottawa a 4-0 lead going into halftime. In the second half, Ottawa's only goal came in the 64th minute by Liv Staberg. McPherson got one back in the 80th minute, but the deficit was too large by that point.
Ottawa led in shots, 18 to nine, as well as shots on goal, 10 to 6. Alondra Carbajal-Pettry made two saves, Te'a Newcomb made one.
Ottawa (2-9-4, 2-5-4 KCAC) returns to the field on Wednesday, October 30 as they host Evangel University at AdventHealth Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
