OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's volleyball team defeated the University of Saint Mary 3-2; 14-25, 29-27, 18-25, 25-13, 15-7; on Wednesday night in Wilson Field House.
How it Happened
- Ottawa opened set one with a 5-1 lead. Two Spire miscues gave OU an 8-2 lead. USM responded with a 12-1 run, taking a 14-9 lead over the Braves. Ottawa was not able to respond, and the Spires took the 25-14 victory.
- The Braves took the early 6-1 lead in set two on a Radaisy Valdez kill. The Spires rallied and tied the set at 13 all. The team exchanged points and the set was tied once more, 15-15. Ottawa scored the next three points, taking an 18-15 lead on a kill by Hollie Peters. Saint Mary rallied again, this time taking a 22-20 lead over the Braves. After an OU timeout, Ottawa scored four straight points to take a 24-22 lead on a Valdez kill. USM scored the next two points to tie the set at 24 all. The teams exchanged points with the Spires taking the 27-26 lead. That would be USM"s last point of the set. Ottawa ended the set with two kills by Campbell Stark and a Spire attacking error to take the 29-27 victory.
- Saint Mary scored the first eight points of the set three. Ottawa was not able to recover from its slow start and the Spires took the set, 25-18.
- The Braves raced out to a 12-2 lead over the Spires in set four. A kill by Kira Cherry and a USM attacking error gave OU a 14-3 lead. OU held Saint Mary in check for the remainder of the match, taking the 25-13 victory.
- Ottawa scored the first five points of set no. 5. Kills by Ariana Arciniega and Cherry gave OU a 7-2 lead. Saint Mary never threatened the Brave lead and OU took the 15-7 victory.
