(17) Softball Sweeps William Woods

OTTAWA, Kan. – The (17) Ottawa University softball team took two from William Woods University on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Park. Ottawa won game one, 8-0, in six innings and won game two, 3-2.

Game One

The Braves struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Ottawa extended its lead to 2-0 with a run in the bottom of the second.

Three runs in the bottom of the fifth pushed the OU lead to 5-0. Ottawa was able to end the game in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three more runs to take the 8-0 victory.

Inside the Box Score Game Two

Ottawa broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third. Rachel Pederson led OU off with a walk. She stole second, giving OU a runner in scoring position. Addison Spencer moved her to third with a single to center. Kara Hafenstine's single to left scored Pederson and OU led 1-0.

The Braves were able to extend their lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, scoring those runs with two outs. Megan Kennedy hit an infield single and swiped second. Pederson doubled to center, scoring Kennedy and OU led 2-0. Macy Roever's infield single moved Pederson to third. Pederson was able to take advantage of a WWU throwing error and crossed home plate, giving OU a 3-0 lead.

In the top of the seventh, William Woods tried to rally. The Owls loaded the bases and had one out. Loralei Gilbert entered the game for Madison Carney. A ground out and an infield single later, WWU had runners on first and third with two outs and trailed, 3-2. Gilbert was able to strike out Sydney Wilbe, ending the William Woods scoring threat and OU took the 3-2 victory.
