SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Ottawa University men's volleyball team fell 3-1; 31-29, 26-28, 21-25, 13-25; to Morningside University at the RVSC-Allee Gym on Thursday night.
How it Happened
- With set one tied 29-29, for the ninth time in the set, the Braves were able to score the final two points to take the victory. Ottawa took a 30-29 lead over Morningside on a Mustang service error. OU took the set on the next point, a block by Akeil Williams, Max Baumann, and Kadeem Morris to take the 31-29 victory.
- Ottawa jumped out to the early lead in set two. A block by Williams gave OU a 6-1 lead. The Braves increased their lead to 10-5 over the Mustangs on kills by Grant Younie and Isaac Rollenhagen. Morningside rallied, putting together a 7-1 run to take a 12-11 lead over OU. The Braves answered with a run of their own, 6-2, taking a 17-14 lead on a MU attacking error. Morningside rallied again and took a 25-24 lead over the Braves. Ottawa responded with two straight points, a kill by Younie and a bad set from Jacob DePauw, to take a 26-25 lead. The Mustangs responded by scoring the next three points, taking the set 28-26.
- Morningside led 8-6 in set three. Two kills from Kadeem Morris and a MU attacking error gave the Braves a 10-9 lead. Ottawa continued to hold the lead and after a kill by Williams, led 17-14. A kill by Morris gave the Braves a 21-18 lead. Morningside answered by ending the set on a 7-0 run, taking the 25-21 victory.
- Ottawa scored the first three points of set no. 4. Morningside rallied and took a 9-8 lead over the Braves. A kill by Younie tied the set, 9-9. The Mustangs retook the lead on the next point, 10-9. Another kill by Younie tied the set once more, 10-10. MU responded with a 6-0 run, taking a 16-10 lead over the Braves. Ottawa was not able to rally and Morningside took the 25-13 victory.
