OU Scores 14 Runs in Game 2 of the DH

PULASKI, Tenn. – The Ottawa University baseball team took the series against the University of Tennessee Southern with a double header sweep on Saturday afternoon, 3-1. Ottawa won game one, 3-2, and took game two, 14-2. Those 14 runs are the most the OU has scored since they put up 21 against Bethany College on April 28, 2023.

Game One
Ottawa took the lead in the top of the first inning. Blaine Thomas singled to right and then moved to second with an infield single by Johnny Vulcano. Dylan Garcia scored Thomas with an infield single to third and OU led 1-0.

The Firehawks tied the game in the bottom of the second, 1-1. In the top of the fifth and with two outs, the Braves were able to retake the lead. Tyler Farnham singled to left. Cole Broughton doubled, scoring Farnham to give OU a 2-1 lead. Broughton was able to move to third on an error by the UTS short stop. Blaine Thomas reached first on an error and Broughton was able to cross home plate on the Firehawk miscue, giving the Braves a 3-1 lead.

UTS cut into OU's lead with a run of its own in the bottom of the fifth, 3-2. In the seventh, the Firehawks were able to get a runner to third but Caden Gray induced a ground out for the third out of the inning and OU took the 3-2 victory.

Inside the Box Score Game Two
Ottawa had an offensive explosion in game two. The Braves scored a run in every inning against the Firehawks. OU scored three in the first, three in the second, one in the third, two in fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh to take the 14-2 victory.

Brandon Kelley and Anthony Soria hit one double apiece, Donnie Rhyne had a triple, and Cole Broughton and Pedro Astacio each hit a home run in the victory.

Ottawa (3-4) hosts Viterbo University in its home opener on Friday, Feb. 9 at Alumni Park. Game one of the double header is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
