OTTAWA, Kan. – The #8 Ottawa men's wrestling team secured the KCAC title on Thursday evening in an electric Wilson Field House by defeating the University of Saint Mary Spires, 22-19. The Braves honored six seniors at the dual against the Spires,
Tucker Tomlinson,
Brandon Kidd Jr.,
Brock Chapman,
Dylan Smith,
Kevon Freeman and
Cordell Hunt.
The Braves started off slow but
Irish Furthmyre got Ottawa on the board with a 4-2 decision win over Austin Almaguer in the 149lb weight division.
Dayton Hill won a 6-3 decision over Braden Headington in the 165lb weight class.
Braden Anderson got a quick pin in the 174lb weight class over Tanner VanScoy.
JD Perez earned a technical fall victory in the 184lb weight division over Gabe Chesbro. With the Braves down 19-16 leading to the final match, OU turned to Isaac Gibson for the 285lb weight division. Gibson is a dual sport with the football team and the football team was in attendance, Gibson pinned his opponent and Ottawa won the KCAC, 22-19.
