(23) Softball Splits with Evangel

OTTAWA, Kan. – The (23) Ottawa University softball team split with Evangel University on Wednesday afternoon. The Valor won game one, 3-0, and the Braves took game two, 9-4.

Game One

Evangel took the lead in the top of the second inning, scoring two runs. That is where the score stayed until the top of the seventh. The Valor pushed one more run across home plate, taking a 3-0 lead. The Braves were not able to rally in the bottom of the seventh and Evangel took the 3-0 victory.

Inside the Box Score Game Two

Evangel scored first, taking a 3-0 lead over the Braves in the top of the third inning. The Valor extended their lead to 4-0 with a run in the top of the fourth.

Ottawa rallied, tying the game in the bottom of the fourth. Kara Hafenstine walked and moved to third on a double to center Nayely Delgado. Morgan Bradford singled to right, scoring Hafenstine and OU trailed 4-1.

Megan Kennedy singled to left, scoring Delgado and moving Bradford to second to put OU within 4-2. Rachel Pederson grounded out to short stop but moved Kennedy to second and Bradford to third. Macy Roever doubled to left, scoring both Kennedy and Bradford to tie the game at four all.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Braves took their first lead of the game. Kennedy walked and moved to second on a fielder's choice by Pederson. A throwing error by the EU shortstop moved Kennedy to third and Pederson to second.

Roever's infield single scored both Kennedy and Pederson, giving OU a 6-4 lead. After a pitching change, the Braves executed a double steal, moving Spencer to second and Roever to third. A sacrifice bunt by Hafenstine scored Roever and OU led 7-4. Reagan Hammon's single to center scored Spencer and OU led 8-0. The EU center fielder  misplayed the ground ball and Hafenstine scored, giving Ottawa the lead and the game, 9-4.

The Braves (20-10, 4-2) are back in action on Saturday, March 23 in Salina, Kan. against Kansas Wesleyan University. Game one of the double header is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
