Ottawa, Kan.- The Ottawa women's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaker on Sunday morning, losing to St. Ambrose 15-16 in overtime.
St. Ambrose scored the first three goals of the game, and Ottawa responded with the next two. At the end of the first period, the Bees lead 5-3. Ottawa then outscored St. Ambrose in the second period to take a 9-8 halftime lead. After a 5-4 St. Ambrose third period, it was all knotted up going into the final frame, and it would stay that way after regulation. The Bees scored halfway into the first overtime period to end the game and take the win.
Ottawa had six goalscorers, notably
Mackenzie Simmons with 7,
Ashley Santillan with 3, and
Isabella Pagliei with 2.
Faith Ruoff lead the team with two assists and five groundballs.
Shelby Bearden made eight saves in goal.
Ottawa (0-3, 0-0 KCAC) returns to the field on Wednesday, March 6 as they travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana to take on (RV) Indiana Tech. That game is scheduled to started to begin at 5 PM.
