Men's Volleyball Travels to KWU for the GPAC Tournament Quarterfinals

The Braves fell 3-2 to Dordt University last Thursday in Sioux Center, Iowa and 3-0 to no. 9 University of Jamestown last Saturday in Jamestown, N.D.

In the five set loss to Dordt, Ottawa finished the match with 66 kills, a .279 attacking percentage, 58 assists, two service aces, 60 digs, and 12.5 team blocks. Akeil Williams finished the match with a double-double. He had 29 kills, a .418 attacking percentage, 12 digs, and five blocks. Grant Younie was the other Brave with double digit kills. He had 11 kills and seven digs. Kade Zrna led Ottawa with 30 assists. He had four blocks. Andrew Salina finished the match with 27 assists. He had nine digs. Kadeem Morris led the Braves with six blocks. Nazmi Bayoglu tallied 14 digs and Max Baumann had 11 digs.

In the loss to Jamestown, Ottawa finished the match with 31 kills, a .101 attacking percentage, 27 assists, 39 digs and three team blocks. Akeil Williams led OU with 12 kills. He had seven digs and two blocks. Andrew Salinas finished with 13 assists and he led OU with nine digs.

The Braves have an overall record of 5-16, a GPAC mark of 3-7, are on a two match losing streak and have a road record of 2-8.

Through 21 matches this season, Ottawa is averaging 10.8 kills per set, 10.2 assists per set, 1.9 blocks per set, 1.1 service aces per set, and 11.5 digs per set. OU has a .161 attacking percentage.

OU is ranked 42nd in the NAIA in kills (823), 39th in kills per set (10.8), 27th in errors (446), 32nd in total attacks (2,335), 47th in attacking percentage (.161), 41st in assists (775), 38th in assists per set (10.2), 46th in service aces per set (1.14), 38th in receptions (1,456), 31st in reception errors (115), 20th in digs (880), third in digs per set (11.5), 39th in solo blocks (42), 30th in block assists (219), 35th in total blocks (152), 25th in blocks per set (1.9), 36th in blocking errors (19), 17th in ball handling errors (12), 44th in points (1061.5), and 39th in points per set (14.0).

Akeil Williams leads the Braves in kills per set (3.9) and blocks per set (1.2). Kade Zrna is the team's leader in assists per set (5.05) and Nazmi Bayoglu is OU's leader in digs per set (2.5).

Saturday is the eighth meeting between Ottawa University and Kansas Wesleyan University. The Braves lead the series, 5-2. The teams split the season series with each team winning on their home court. Ottawa won 3-0 on Feb. 24 in Wilson Field House and KWU took a 3-2 victory over OU on March 29 in Mabee Arena. The first ever match between the two teams happened on Jan. 18, 2022 in Salina. Ottawa won the contest 3-0. This is the second straight season that Ottawa and Kansas Wesleyan have played in the GPAC Tournament. The two teams played against each other on March 25, 2023 in Wilson Field House in the GPAC Quarterfinals. OU won the match 3-0.

Kansas Wesleyan University has an overall record of 13-12, a GPAC mark of 4-6, is on a one match winning streak, and has a home record of 8-5. The Coyotes enter Saturday's match coming off a 3-0 victory over Central Christian College on Salina on April 2.

Zayin Martinez leads KWU in kills per set (2.7), Tyler McUne is the team's leader in assists per set (6.9), Jeremy Lapeze leads the Coyotes in digs per set (3.1), and Kahlib Lawrence is KWU's leader in blocks per set (0.9).
