Women's Flag Football Finishes Regular Season Vs. Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday

The Braves enter Saturday's game coming off a 65-0 victory over the University of Saint Mary last Saturday at AdventHealth Field. All 363 yards of OU's offense came through the air. The University of Saint Mary had 83 yards, (-) 26 yards rushing and 109 yards passing. Madysen Carrera was 14-for-14 through the air for 240 yards and six touchdowns. Jaida Bayron was 9-for-13 through the air for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Alyssa Linkous had six receptions for 95 yards and three touchdowns. Hannah Serquina had eight flag pulls, six sacks, and six flag pulls for loss for 28 yards. Abby Brown had five flag pulls, two interceptions, a pick six, and a pass break up. Dejonice Parris finished the game with three flag pulls, one flag pull for loss, and a pass break up.

Madysen Carrera was named KCAC Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season for her efforts in OU's victory over USM.  Playing the first half and the first series in the second half, Carrera was 14-for-14 through the air for 240 yards and six touchdowns.

Ottawa is led in rushing by Madysen Carrera. She is averaging 19.0 rushing yards per game and has scored three rushing touchdowns. Carrera also leads the Braves in passing. She is 281-373 through the air for 3,003 yards and 53 touchdowns. Carrera is averaging 231 passing yards per game and is completing 75 percent of her passes.

Jazlyn Camacho is OU's leader in receptions with 52. She has 583 receiving yards and is averaging 48.6 receiving yards per game. Camacho has 11 receiving touchdowns. Cynthia Homs leads the team with 649 receiving yards. She has 48 receptions, averaging 49.9 receiving yards per game. Homs has 11 receiving touchdowns.

Abby Brown leads OU in flag pulls with 65. She has six interceptions and six pass break ups. Jukanie Washington is second on the team in flag pulls with 45. She has one flag pull for loss, one sack, three interceptions and three pass break ups. Susann Kaufmann has 37 flag pulls and has six sacks for a total of 36 yards. She has six pass break ups.

Ottawa is outscoring opponents 37.8-8.7. The Braves are averaging 309.3 yards of offense per game while holding opponents to 174.5 yards of offense. OU is holding opponents to 168.1 passing yards per game and 6.4 rushing yards per game.

OU's defense has a total of 25 sacks this season for a total of 138 yards Ottawa also has 28 interceptions and 44 pass break ups.

Both Ottawa and Kansas Wesleyan are tied in the KCAC in the loss column with one loss. The winner of Saturday's game will capture the KCAC Championship.

Saturday is the 13th meeting between Ottawa University and Kansas Wesleyan University. The Braves lead the series, 11-1. Kansas Wesleyan gave the Braves their first loss in conference play on March 28 in Salina, Kan., 18-13. The first game between the two teams happened on Feb. 28, 2021 in Salina. Ottawa won the game, 38-6.

Kansas Wesleyan University has an overall record of 13-1, a KCAC mark of 11-1, is on a six game winning streak and has a record of 6-0 on the road this season. KWU's lone conference loss was against Baker University on March 13 in Salina. The Wildcats won the game, 30-28. Baker trailed 21-12 at the start of the fourth quarter. The Wildcats outscored the Coyotes 18-7 in the fourth to take the victory.

The Coyotes are averaging 274.4 yards of offense per game, 20.7 yards rushing and 253.7 yards passing. They are averaging 33.9 points per game. Opponents are averaging 143.4 yards of offense per game, 34.5 rushing yards and 108.9 passing yards. KWU is allowing 8.9 points per game.

Chihiro Iwata leads KWU in rushing, averaging 17.8 rushing yards per game. She has scored four rushing touchdowns. Iwata also leads the team in passing. She has one sack, one interception, and two pass break ups. Nickayla Howard has 34 flag pulls. She has four interceptions and eight pass break ups.
