WICHITA, Kan. – The Ottawa University baseball team rallied to take a 7-6 victory over Friends University on Tuesday afternoon at the West Side Athletic Field.
Friends opened the game with early lead. The Falcons scored their runs on one hit, four walks, and three hit by pitch to take a 5-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth, Ottawa cut into the Friends' lead.
Cole Broughton singled to left.
Dylan Garcia's ground out moved Broughton to third.
Marcellus Pearson scored Broughton with an infield single, and OU was down 5-1.
The Falcons earned that run back in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 6-1 lead over OU. After a scoreless fifth and six innings, Ottawa cut into the Falcon lead in the top of the seventh.
Blaine Thomas doubled to center,
Tyler Farnham was hit by a pitch, and
Anthony Soria walked to load the bases for the Braves. A single to right scored Thomas to put OU within 6-2. Broughton's fielder's choice scored Farnham and the Braves trailed 6-3.
In the top of the eighth, OU was able to complete its comeback. Pearson singled to left and then moved to second with a single by Thomas.
Johnny Vulcano walked, loading the bases for the Braves. Farnham was hit by a pitch and scored Braden Franz, who was in the game as a pinch runner for Pearson, to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Thomas scored OU's second run of the inning, scoring on an
Anthony Soria's fielder's choice, and Ottawa was within 6-5.
Nicholas Sizemore's bunt singled scored Vulcano, tying the game 6-6. Ottawa took its first lead of the game on Broughton's sacrifice fly to center. Soria scored and OU had a 7-6 lead.
Only two Falcons reached base in the eighth and ninth innings as Ottawa took the 7-6 victory.
