Olathe, KAN. - The Ottawa men's soccer team suffered their second straight loss as they were defeated by MidAmerica Nazarene by a score of 5-2 on Wednesday evening.
MNU opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a goal scored by Jaxon Slaven, and wasted no time to follow that up, netting a 23rd minute Tinashe Simbo goal. Ottawa got a goal back in the 27th minute, scored by
Jevan Purcell-Jackson and assisted by
Toby Witham. The Braves then leveled the score in the 34th minute with an
Alonso Basauri goal, assisted by
Khalil Al Harthi. Paul Heel scored a goal in the 36th minute for MNU to give the Pioneers a 3-2 lead going into halftime. MNU scored 52nd and 89th minute goals by Antonio Mugica and Diego Calderon, respectively, to solidify their lead and take the game, 5-2.
MNU outshot Ottawa 22-10, and 10-6 in shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Marko de Sa Faria made five saves.
Ottawa (0-2-0, 0-0-0 KCAC) returns to the field on Wednesday, September 4 as they travel to Canton, Missouri for an away match at Culver-Stockton College. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
