(25) Women's Volleyball Moves Past Rocky Mountain, 3-1

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The (25) Ottawa University women's volleyball team defeated Rocky Mountain College 3-1, 23-25, 25-18, 28-26, 25-22; on Friday afternoon at OLLU Mabee Gymnasium. The win is OU's first over Rocky Mountain College.

How it Happened
  • Ottawa trailed 10-6 in set one to Rocky Mountain. The Braves rallied behind kills from Kira Cherry and Radaisy Valdez to tie the set at 11 all. The Battlin' Bears answered, retaking the lead 21-17. Ottawa did not go away. Trailing 23-19, Ottawa was able to get within 24-23. The Braves could not complete the comeback and RMC took the 25-23 victory.
  • The Braves took an early 4-1 lead over the Battlin' Bears. A kill by Campbell Stark gave OU an 8-3 lead. Rocky Mountain chipped away at OU's lead, outscoring the Braves 7-1 to take a 10-9 lead. The teams exchanged points and the match was tied 15-15. Ottawa went on a 4-0 run, taking a 19-15 lead after a Loranie Ruiz service ace. The Braves held RMC in check for the remainder of the set and OU took the 25-18 victory.
  • Ottawa fell behind 9-3 in set three. But OU was able to rebound from its slow start and were within 24-21. Ottawa scored the next four points, taking a 25-24 lead on a Rocky Mountain. After an exchange of points, the match was tied 26-26. The Braves were able to put the set away by scoring the next two points, a kill by Grbic and a block by Cherry, 28-26.
  • Two kills by Cherry and a bad set by RMC gave the Braves a 9-6 lead in set four. Ottawa increased its lead to 14-9 on kills by Arian Arciniega, Valdez, and Cherry. The Battlin' Bears rallied and tied the set at 21-21. A kill by Valdez gave OU a 22-21 lead. RMC tied the set on the next point, 22-22. Ottawa answered by scoring the next three points, taking the set on a Valdez kill, 25-22.

  • Radaisy Valdez had 20 kills and a .576 attacking percentage. She also had six digs. Valdez is just 10 kills away from reaching 1,000 kills in an OU uniform.
