OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's volleyball team defeated Kansas Wesleyan University 3-2; 18-25, 25-22, 25-14, 22-25, 15-3; on Saturday morning in Wilson Field House.
How it Happened
- Ottawa had the early 5-2 lead over the Coyotes in set one. KWU rallied, taking a 13-7 lead over the Braves. OU could not recover, and Kansas Wesleyan took the set, 25-18.
- A block by Kira Cherry and Campbell Stark gave the Braves a 7-6 lead over the Coyotes in set 2. Two straight kills by Hollie Peters and a Radaisy Valdez kill gave OU a 10-7 lead. KWU answered with a 6-1 run to take a 13-11 lead over Ottawa. The Braves responded and after a Stark kill, the Braves led 16-15. Kansas Wesleyan rallied again, this time taking a 20-18 lead over the Braves. Ottawa responded with a 5-1 run, taking a 23-21 lead on a block by Valdez and Ariana Arciniega. After the KWU timeout, the Coyotes scored the next point to cut OU's lead to 23-22. That is all the closer the Coyotes would get. The Braves closed out the set on a Brittan Lee kill and a KWU attacking error, taking the 25-22 victory.
- Ottawa jumped out to a 10-4 lead over Kansas Wesleyan and never looked back, taking the 25-14 victory in set no. 3.
- Trailing 24-17 in set four, Ottawa attempted a comeback. The Braves scored five straight points to cut the deficit to 24-22. The Coyotes were able to take the set on the next point to send the match into a fifth set, 25-22.
- Ottawa scored the first six points of set five and led 11-1 on a block by Stark and Arciniega. The Coyote never threatened the OU lead and the Braves took the 15-3 victory.

- Ariana Arciniega and Radaisy Valdez finished the match with 17 kills apiece. Valdez had a .417 attacking percentage, eight digs and five blocks. Arciniega had six digs and seven blocks.
