Women's Basketball Plays McPherson on Saturday

The Braves fell 101-90 in overtime to Evangel University on Wednesday night in Wilson Field House. Ottawa shot 41.1 percent from the floor, 30.4 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 76.7 percent from the free throw line. Nora Ford led OU with 24 points, Dominique Schutte scored 16 points, Abbie Sextro finished the game with 13 points, Janiyah Hendricks and Anna Eldridge scored 12 points apiece, and Katelyn Alatini had 10 points. Hendricks led OU with seven rebounds and four steals. Sextro finished the game with five assists and four blocks.

Ottawa is averaging 72.7 points, 36.6 rebounds, and 12.2 assists per game. They are shooting 38 percent from the floor, 30.8 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 71.6 percent from the free throw line.

Ottawa had six players score in double figures in the overtime loss, 101-90, to Evangel on Wednesday night. This is the first time this season that OU has had six players score 10 or more points in a game.  The Braves are 4-5 in games where four or more players score in double figures.

OU is ranked 44th in the NAIA in points scored (1,527), 47th in 3-pt field goals made per game (7.6), 43rd in 3-pt field goals attempted per game (24.60, 12th in free throws made per game (16.1), 18th in free throws attempted per game (22.5), 31st in opponent steals per game (6.8), and 24th in opponent personal fouls per game (19.2).

Dominique Schutte leads OU in scoring (12.8), Abbie Sextro is OU's leader in rebounds per game (6.5), Janiyah Hendricks is the Braves' leader in assists (2.5), Sextro leads the team in blocks (0.7), and Nora Ford leads OU in steals (2.3) per game.

Dominique Schutte continues to move up the OU record book in single season 3-pt field goals made. She has made 66 3-pt field goals this season, with seven games remaining in the regular season. That mark ties her for sixth all-time with Braves Athletic Hall of Fame member, Brittany Broyles. Maggie Hasenkamp holds the school record with 86 set during the 2009-10 season.

Ottawa has a record of 3-7 and a mark of 1-7 in the KCAC at home this season. OU is averaging 76 points per game, shooting 39.5 percent from the floor and 29.8 percent from behind the 3-pt line. Opponents are scoring 77.7 points, shooting 43.4 percent from the floor, and 32.4 percent from behind the 3-pt line.

Anna Eldridge has picked up her scoring in her last nine games.. She averaged 4.1 points per game through the first 12 games of her OU career. In her last nine games, she his averaging 7.2 points per game, including averaging 12 in her last two games.

In OU's six wins, Ottawa is averaging 83.5 points and shooting 38.9 percent from the floor. In their 15 losses, the Braves are scoring 68.4 points and shooting 37.5 percent from the floor.

Saturday is the 90th game between Ottawa University and McPherson College. The Braves lead the series 48-41 and is on a five game winning streak against the Bulldogs. OU won the first meeting this season on Nov. 23 in McPherson, 82-66. The Braves have won two straight against the Bulldogs in Wilson Field House. The last time OU was defeated by MC at home was on Feb. 9, 2022. McPherson won the game, 84-75. The first meeting between the two teams was in 1976 in McPherson. The Bulldogs won the game, 74-35.

In Ottawa's 82-66 win over the Bulldogs on Nov. 23, OU shot 38.7 percent from the floor, 35.7 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 56 percent from the free throw line. The Braves had three players in double figures, led by Dominique Schutte's 15 points. Tiyani Rollins came off the bench to score 12 points and Nora Ford finished the game with 11 points. Abbie Sextro led the Braves with seven rebounds. Desire Marshall-Penny, Anna Eldridge, Janyiah Hendricks, and Sextro had three assists apiece. Schutte led the Braves with five steals.

McPherson College is 0-21 overall and 0-15 in the KCAC. The Bulldogs have lost 22 straight games dating back to Feb. 24, 2024. MC's last win came on Feb. 21, 2024 at Southwestern College in Wiinfield, Kan. The win was also the Bulldogs' last road victory. MC won the game 73-62. McPherson has lost 11 straight road games.

The Bulldogs are averaging 55.2 points, 34.9 rebounds, and 8.7 assists per game. They are shooting 33.4 percent from the floor, 25.8 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 58.2 percent from the free throw line.

Gillian Rodgers leads MC in scoring (9.7), Kennedy Smith is McPherson's leader in rebounding (7.6), Jayla Moore is the Bulldogs' leader in assists (1.9), Rodger is the team's leader in blocks (0.3), and Laura Guillamat-Ribo is MC's leader in steals (0.8) per game.

On the road this season, McPherson is scoring 53.6 points per game. They are shooting 32.4 percent from the floor and 25.9 from behind the 3-pt line.
