Men's Soccer Handles Avila

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Ottawa men's soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to six as they beat Avila 7-1 on Wednesday afternoon in Kansas City.

The Braves did not take long to score their first goal, as Alonso Basauri found Jevan Purcell-Jackson in the 6th minute. Ottawa doubled their lead in the 21st minute as Felipe Padierna got on the board, with Basauri once again assisting. Avila quickly nullified that lead, scoring a 21st minute goal of their own. Daniel Raja scored his first collegiate goal in the 38th minute, and Ottawa lead 3-1 going into halftime. Simon Kindt scored his first collegiate goal in the 59th minute, and Alonso Basauri was assisted by Matias Mazieres in the 63rd minute. Mazieres added to his statline with a goal in the 66th, assisted by Khalil Al-Harthi. Felix Leonhardt finished the game's scoring in the 76th minute with his first collegiate goal, assisted by Mazieres.

Ottawa led total shots 39 to ten and shots on goal 26 to five. David Martinez made four saves in goal for Ottawa.

Ottawa (4-1-5, 3-0-2 KCAC) returns to the field on Saturday, October 4 as they travel to McPherson, Kansas for a game at McPherson College. That game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM.
