OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University volleyball team delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday night inside Wilson Field House, sweeping Avila University 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-14) in KCAC play.
The Braves (5-8, 2-1 KCAC) were efficient offensively, hitting .271 as a team while holding the Eagles (5-14, 0-3 KCAC) to just .046.
Ottawa's attack was balanced, led by
Hollie Peters and
Bailee Nickel, who each tallied 10 kills. Peters hit an impressive .562, while Nickel added a pair of aces and 11 total points.
Campbell Stark was a force at the net with seven kills and a team-high seven blocks, while
Lillian Holden chipped in six kills at a .235 clip.
Setter
Makela Martinez directed the offense with 20 assists, and
Madison Brauner added 16 more to help spread the attack. Libero
Carson Schuman anchored the back row with a match-high 12 digs.
The Braves jumped out strong in set one, using a 10–3 run midway through to pull away for a 25-15 win. Avila kept things tighter in the second, rallying late, but Ottawa closed the door 25-21 on a kill from
Samantha Stahl, who finished with five kills, three aces, and 12 digs. In the third, Ottawa's serving pressure broke the Eagles' rhythm—highlighted by three straight aces from Stahl during a 7–0 run that sealed the 25-14 clincher.
Avila was paced by Sydney Owens and Megan Davies, who each recorded eight kills. The Eagles hit just .000 in the third set under constant defensive pressure from the Braves.
