Football is on the Road at Bethany on Saturday

Ottawa snapped its four game losing streak with a 28-21 victory over Tabor College last Saturday afternoon in the 94th Homecoming football game for the Braves. The win moves OU to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the KCAC Kessinger Division. 

Through eight games this season, Ottawa is averaging 350.6 yards of offense per game, 94.6 yards rushing and 256 yards passing. OU is scoring 24 points per game. Opponents are averaging 197.9 yards rushing per game and 225.4 yards passing per game for an average of 423.3 yards of offense per game. OU's opponents are scoring 35.3 points per game. 

Luke Edwards leads the Braves in passing. He is 164-285 through the air for 1,936 yards and nine touchdowns. Edwards has throwing seven interceptions. He is averaging 242 passing yards per game and completing 57.5 percent of his passes. Anthony Powell leads the Braves in rushing with 376 yards on 88 attempts, a 4.3 yard per carry average. He is averaging 47 rushing yards per game. Powell and Cooper Parsons leads OU with four rushing touchdowns apiece. Jayden Johnson is OU's leader in receptions with 49. He has 646 receiving yards and is averaging 6.1 receptions per game and 80.8 receiving yards per game. De'Anthony Curtis leads the Braves with three receiving touchdowns. Ethan Yinger is OU's leader in tackles with 53. He has 3.5 tackles for loss, four pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one recovered fumble. Teagan Flynn is OU's leader in sacks with 8.5. He has one pass break up. Elijah Hann and Donovan Martin are OU's leader in interceptions with two apiece. 

The Braves are ranked 38th in the NAIA in total offense (2,805), 19th in passing yards (2,048), 25th in passing yards per game (256), 48th in rushing attempts (259), 34th in rushing touchdowns (14), 37th in first downs (162), 49th in rushing first downs (60), 27th in passing first downs (88), 42nd in penalty first downs (14), 29th in third down percentage (.430), 26th in fourth down percentage (.580), 37th in kick return average (21.7), 44th in field goal percentage (.667), 46th in average per punt (36.7), third in recovered fumbles (8), 11th in sacks (22), and 46th in penalties (52).

Saturday is the 99th game between Ottawa University and Bethany College. Ottawa leads the series 58-37-3 and the Braves are 3-2 in their last five games against the Swedes. Bethany won the game last season on Oct. 5 in Lindsborg, Kan. 13-0. That was the first time that OU had been shutout by Bethany since Nov. 13, 1936. The Braves have won three straight games against the Swedes in Ottawa. The last time Bethany won in Ottawa was on Sept. 20, 2014, 34-24. Ottawa has a record of 30-16-1 against the Swedes at home. The first ever game between the two teams happened on Oct. 11, 1902 in Lindsborg. Bethany won the game 17-5. OU's first home victory over Bethany was on Oct. 5, 1917, 14-6.

Ottawa earned its 480th victory in against a KCAC opponent with its win over Tabor last Saturday. OU has a record of 480-315-18 against KCAC opponents and are 458-292-16 when playing those opponents in conference place. 

Bethany College has an overall record of 3-5 and a KCAC Kessinger Division record of 1-1. The Swedes are 1-3 at home this season and snapped their three game losing streak last Saturday with a 25-14 victory over Bethel College in North Newton. 

The Swedes are averaging 281 yards of offense per game, 148 yards rushing and 133 yards passing. Bethany is scoring 22.8 points per game. Opponents are averaging 446.9 yards of offense per game, 209.3 yards rushing and 237.6 yards passing. The Swedes are allowing 42 points per game. 

Jessie Caver III leads Bethany in passing. He is 79-109 through the air for 895 yards and nine touchdowns. Caver has thrown five interceptions. He is completing 46.7 percent of his passes and is averaging 111.9 passing yards per game. Josiah Hardrick is the team's leader in rushing with 347 yards on 93 attempts. He has scored four rushing touchdowns and is averaging 3.7 rushing yards per attempt and 43.4 rushing yards per game. Chase Hyer is BC's leader in receptions with 25. He has 395 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns. Hyer is averaging 56.4 receiving yards per game. Malcolm Jones leads the Swedes in tackles with 64. He has 2.5 tackles for loss and three pass break ups. Cooper Bogenhagen has 45 tackles, three tackles for loss, and one sack. David Martinez leads the Swedes in sacks (2) and interceptions (2). 

The Swedes are ranked 34th in the NAIA in rushing yards (1,184), 12th in rushing attempts (314), 40th in rushing yards per game (148), 49th in yards per carry (3.8), 42nd in rushing touchdowns (11), 31st in rushing first downs (69), 15th in penalty first downs (19), 22nd in punt return average (12.6), 22nd in field goal percentage (.800), 26th in recovered fumbles (6), 29th in defensive touchdowns (1), and 23rd in tackles (526).
