OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University football team fell 28-7 to no. 6 Friends University at AdventHealth Field on Saturday afternoon.
First Quarter
Ottawa opened the scoring midway through the first quarter. Quarterback
Luke Edwards engineered a 10-play, 75-yard drive capped by a 43-yard strike to
Rowdy Keith, giving the Braves a 7-0 lead at the 10:21 mark. Friends quickly countered, as Michael Lopez punched in a 6-yard touchdown run just under two minutes later to even the score at 7-7.
Second Quarter
The Falcons controlled the second quarter with a punishing ground game. K'Vonte Baker finished off a 14-play, 84-yard drive with a 7-yard touchdown run, pushing Friends ahead 14-7. The Braves threatened late in the half but were turned away on downs and went into the locker room trailing by a touchdown.
Third Quarter
Momentum stayed with Friends in the third. After an Ottawa turnover, the Falcons capitalized when E'derian Sykes broke free for a 67-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 21-7 with 4:29 remaining in the quarter. Ottawa's offense struggled to sustain drives, while Friends' rushing attack continued to control the tempo.
Fourth Quarter
Lopez added his second touchdown of the game early in the fourth quarter, a 2-yard run to cap a 69-yard march, sealing the Falcons' 28-7 victory. Ottawa put together a promising 13-play drive on the ensuing possession but again came up empty in the red zone.
By the Numbers
- Friends dominated the ground game, rushing for 447 yards on 59 carries (7.6 avg.), led by Sykes (144 yards, 1 TD) and Cordova (123 yards).
- Lopez added 78 yards and two touchdowns, while Baker chipped in 55 yards and a score.
- Ottawa was limited to just five rushing yards on 17 attempts.
- Edwards completed 25 of 46 passes for 255 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Jayden Johnson led the Braves' receivers with seven catches for 88 yards.
- Defensively, Bryson Nolan and Ethan Yinger paced Ottawa with nine tackles apiece, while Christian Obregon forced a fumble and added six stops.

Ottawa (2-4) returns to the field in two weeks to start Kessinger Division Play. OU is on the road in Springfield, Mo. on Saturday, Oct. 18 against (RV) Evangel University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
