WICHITA, Kan. - The Ottawa men's soccer team punched their ticket to the KCAC Tournament Championship and the NAIA National Tournament with their win over third-seeded Kansas Wesleyan in the KCAC Tournament Semifinals on Friday evening.
Ottawa struck first in the 24th minute as Jevan Purcell-Jackson scored unassisted, and Ottawa took that 1-0 into halftime. The Braves extended their lead in the 78th minute as Alonso Basauri scored a goal assisted by Sam Hatswell, and lightning struck twice when Basauri assisted Purcell-Jackson in the 87th minute.
Ottawa led total shots 11 to nine, Kansas Wesleyan led shots on goal six to five. David Martinez made six saves en route to a clean sheet. Ottawa has qualified for the NAIA National Tournament as the KCAC's second automatic bid.
Ottawa (13-1-6, 10-0-3 KCAC) returns to the field on Wednesday, November 12 as they take on (1) Oklahoma Wesleyan University in the KCAC Tournament Championship in Wichita. That game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.
