Softball Takes One of Two from the University of Houston-Victoria

VICTORIA, Texas – The Ottawa University softball team split its double header with (RV) University of Houston-Victoria on Monday afternoon. The Braves took game one, 2-1, but fell in game two, 6-1.

Game One
The Jaguars broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning, taking a 1-0 lead over the Braves. Ottawa answered in the top of the fifth.

Mallory Dunn walked to lead off the top of the fifth for OU. Megan Kennedy's sacrifice bunt moved Dunn into scoring position. Macy Roever's infield single advanced Dunn to third and the Braves had runners on the corners. Kara Hafenstine scored both Dunn and Roever with a double to left and the Braves had a 2-1 lead.

The Braves held the Jaguars scoreless in their final three at bats, taking the 2-1 victory.

Game Two
The Braves struck first, taking the lead in the top of the first inning. Macy Roever reached first with a bunt single. Kara Hafenstine's sacrifice bunt advanced Roever to third. Addison Spencer scored Roever with a single to center, giving OU a 1-0 lead.

That is where the score stayed until the bottom of the sixth inning. UHV scored six runs, taking a 6-1 lead over the Braves. Ottawa was not able to rally in the top of the seventh and the Jaguars took the 6-1 victory.
