Women's Basketball is on the Road at Avila on Wednesday

The Braves defeated McPherson College, 77-71 on Saturday afternoon in Wilson Field House. Ottawa shot 34.3 percent from the floor, 25 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 88.5 percent from the free throw line. OU had three players in double figures, led by Nora Ford's 30 points on 9-for-16 shooting from the floor. She was 11-for-11 from the free throw line. Katelyn Alatini scored 18 points and Dominique Schutte finished the game with 11 points. Schutte and Sydney Scott led OU with six rebounds apiece. Janiyah Hendricks tallied three steals.

Ottawa is averaging 72.9 points, 36.7 rebounds, and 12.3 assists per game. OU is shooting 37.8 percent from the floor, 30.4 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 72.5 percent from the free throw line.

OU is 3-6 away from Wilson Field House and 2-5 in KCAC road contests. The Braves have lost six straight on the road this season with its last road victory coming on Dec. 4 in Winfield against Southwestern College, 84-78 in double overtime. Ottawa is scoring 70.7 points per game and shooting 37.1 percent from the floor. Opponents are scoring 76.6 points per game and shooting 40.8 percent from the floor.

In OU's nine road games this season, the Braves have three players averaging in double figures. Sextro is shooting 41.2 percent from the floor. Ford is shooting 37.4 percent from the floor and 36.8 percent from behind the 3-pt line.

In Katelyn Alatini's last three games, the senior is averaging 12.3 points per game and shooting 45.5 percent from the floor and 46.7 percent from behind the 3-pt line. In her previous 14 games, Alatini was scoring 5.1 points and shooting 27.1 percent from the floor.

Wednesday is the 45th meeting between Ottawa University and Avila University. The series is tied 22-22 and Avila is on a two game winning streak against the Braves. The last time OU won in Mabee Fieldhouse was on Feb. 8, 2023. The Braves won the game 79-52. That is also the last time the Braves defeated Avila. The Eagles won the first meeting this season in Wilson Field House on Jan. 13, 95-63. The first ever meeting between the two teams happened on Dec. 9, 1975 in Wilson Field House. OU won the game 108-37.

In the loss to Avila on Jan. 13, Ottawa shot 32.8 percent from the floor, 26.1 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 73.9 from the free throw line. Dominique Schutte led OU with 17 points. Nora Ford had five rebounds and Janiyah Hendricks tallied three assists.

Avila University is 7-15 overall and 7-9 in the KCAC. The Eagles have a record of 5-4 in Mabee Fieldhouse this season. Avila snapped its three game losing streak on Saturday with a 68-61 victory over Friends University in Mabee Fieldhouse.

Madilyn Melton leads the Eagles in scoring (13), rebounding (6.8), and blocks (0.5). Marlie Wright is AU's leader in assists (3.1) and steals (2.4) per game.

The Eagles are averaging 63.8 points, 33 rebounds, and 11.3 assists per game. AU is shooting 39.2 percent from the floor, 30.7 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 75.8 percent from the free throw line.

Avila is ranked 19th in the NAIA in free throw percentage (75.8).

At home this season, the Eagles are scoring 66.3 points per game. AU is shooting 41.8 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from behind the 3-pt line.
