Women's Flag Derails Graceland, 43-0

LAMONI, Iowa – The Ottawa University women's flag football team earned its fifth consecutive shutout with a 41-0 victory over Graceland University at Huntsman Field on Saturday afternoon. Madysen Carrera's 66 yards touchdown pass to Alyssa Linkous on the first play of the game is tied for first on the OU record book for longest pass in a game and longest touchdown pass in a game.

The Braves received the ball to start the game, and it only took one play for OU to take the early lead. Madysen Carrera threw a 66-yard touchdown pass to Alyssa Linkous. Carrera's extra point attempt was good, and the Braves led 7-0.

The OU defense forced a Yellowjacket punt the Ottawa offense took over on the GU 36 yard line with 3:35 left in the first quarter. The Brave offense moved the ball to the Yellowjacket 29 yard line, where they have a fourth and nine. Carrera thew a 29 yard touchdown pass to Jazlyn Camacho. The extra point attempt by Linkous was good and OU had a 14-0 lead with five seconds to go in the first quarter.

On Graceland's next offensive possession, the OU defense earned the take away. On the third play of the drive, Susann Kaufmann sacked the GU quarterback to record the safety and the Braves led 16-0 with 11:12 to go in the half.

The OU offense took over on its on 14 yard line after the safety. Three straight passes to Tatiana Dos Santos and the Braves were in the end zone. Carrera's extra point attempt was good and with 4:30 on the clock, Ottawa led 23-0 with 4:30 remaining in the first half.

The Brave defense forced a second straight Graceland turnover on the Yellowjackets next offensive possession. Mya Quinn intercepted the pass at the GU 10 yard line and OU took over with two minutes remaining in the second quarter.

It only took one play for the Braves to extend their lead over the Yellowjackets. Carrera threw the five yard touchdown pass to Dos Santos. The extra point attempt was good and the Braves led 30-0 with 1:57 left in the second quarter.

The Ottawa defense came away with another take away. On the third play of the GU drive, Cynthia Homs intercepted the ball and OU took over on the Graceland 39 yards line with 53 seconds on the clock.
One plays later, Carrera connected with Jukanie Washington for the 39 yard touchdown and OU led 36-0 with 33 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

The OU defense tallied another take away with a Bethany Uribe interception and the Braves took a 36-0 lead into the locker room.

Graceland received the ball to start the second half and the Braves came away with the turnover. Carrera threw a two yard touchdown pas to Linkous. The extra point attempt was good and Ottawa took the 43-0 lead.

Ottawa held Graceland scoreless for the remainder of the game, taking the 43-0 victory.
