Women's Flag Football Wins its 10th Straight, Downs Baker 24-12

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team won 10th straight game, defeating Baker University 24-12 on Tuesday night.

Ottawa received the ball to start the game. The Braves put together an eight play, 66 yard scoring drive to get on the scoreboard first. Madysen Carrera threw an 11 yard touchdown pass to Tatiana Dos Santos, giving OU a 6-0 lead over Baker with 5:40 left in the first quarter.

The OU defense forced a three and out and Ottawa's offense took over on its own 38 yard line with 3:04 remaining in the first quarter.

The Braves put together another scoring drive, this one six plays, that ended in a five yard touchdown run by Carrera. The extra point attempt was no good and with 11:12 left in the first half, Ottawa led 12-0.

Ottawa's defense forced a turnover on downs and the Brave offense took over with 6:02 on the clock on the Baker 37 yard line. Just four plays later, OU was in the end zone. Carrera threw a five yard touchdown pass to Jazlyn Camacho and the Braves led 18-0 with 4:19 remaining in the second quarter.

Baker cut into the Brave lead on its next offensive possession. The Wildcats put together a nine play, 66 yard scoring drive that ended in a Tara Llorente touchdown pass to Jaylin Harris. The extra point attempt was no good and OU took an 18-6 lead into the locker room.

Baker received the ball to start the second half. The OU defense forced another turnover on downs and the Ottawa offense took over on the Wildcat 38 yard line with 6:32 left in the third quarter.

Ottawa increased its lead over the Wildcats on its first offensive possession of the second half. On the third play of the drive, Carrera threw a touchdown pass to Marley Spielberg. The extra point attempt was no good and the Braves had a 24-6 lead with 4:27 left in the third quarter.

OU's defense forced a turnover on downs. The Brave offense punted for the first time in the game and Baker took over on its own 17 yard line with 3:58 left in the contest. Baker scored its second touchdown of the game with 1:19 remaining in the fourth quarter to cut OU's lead to 24-12.   

The Braves ran out the clock and OU took the 24-12 victory.

  • Susann Kaufmann and Dejonice Parris had four flag pulls apiece. Kaufmann had two pass break ups and Parris had one pass break.
