Softball Extends Winning Streak to 6 Games, Sweeps KWU

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University softball team is on a six game winning streak with the double header sweep of Kansas Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Park. The Braves took game one, 5-1 and game two, 2-1, in eight innings.
Game One
Addison Spencer singled to center and Mallory Dunn walked to give OU runners on first and second. Zoe Butts loaded the bases with a single to left. Katie Enneking gave the Braves the lead with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Spencer, and OU had a 1-0 lead.
That is where the score stayed until the top of the sixth when the Coyotes tied the game, 1-1. Ottawa answered in the bottom of the sixth.
Davanie Medina scored Dunn with a bunt single and the Braves had a 2-1 lead. Alex Genty bunted, scoring Elizabeth Palmer, increasing the OU lead to 3-1. Ottawa pushed another run across home plate in the inning on a ground out by Megan Kennedy. Medina scored from third, giving OU a 4-1 lead. Macy Roever scored the final run of the inning with a single to right. Her hit scored Genty and the Braves had a 5-1 lead.
In the top of the seventh it was three up and three down for the OU defense and the Braves took a 5-1 victory.
Inside the Box Score
  • Alex Genty and Addison Spencer had two hits apiece for the Braves.
  • Lanie Becker pitched seven innings, earning the win. She struck out one.
Game Two
The score stayed 0-0 until the top of the eighth. Kansas Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead over OU. The Braves responded with two runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Megan Kennedy was on second due to the international tie breaker rule. Macy Roever scored her with a bunt to tie the game at 1-1. Roever stole second and third, giving OU the game winning run 60 feet from home. Addison Spencer scored her with an infield single and OU took the 2-1 victory.

Ottawa (16-14, 6-2) returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 25 against Oklahoma Wesleyan University at Alumni Park. Game one of the double header is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
