Women's Flag Football Upends Cottey, 46-0

NEVADA, Mo. – The Ottawa University flag football team defeated Cottey College 49-0 on Wednesday night at the Nevada High School Football Field.

Cottey received the ball to start the game but it didn't take long before the Ottawa offense took over. The OU defense forced a three and out and the Braves took over on the Cottey 28 yard line after the Comet punt. Seven plays later, the Braves were in the end zone. Madysen Carrera threw a three yard touchdown pass to Jazlyn Camacho. The extra point attempt was no good and with 5:53 remaining in the first quarter, Ottawa had a 6-0 lead.

Ottawa's defense gave the ball right back to the offense. Taliyah McInnis intercepted the pass and OU took over on its own 33 yard line.

Five plays and 47 yards later the Braves crossed the goal line for the second time in the game. Carrera threw an 18 yard touchdown pass to Camacho. The extra point attempt by Addison Orsborn was good and OU had a 13-0 lead with 13 seconds left in the first quarter.

On the Comets' next offensive possession, OU's defense forced another turnover on downs. Ottawa found the end zone for the third time in the game. Two plays and 39 yards later, Carrera completed her third touchdown pass of the game. This one was 26 yards to Tatiana Dos Santos. OU converted the extra point attempt and with 6:44 left in the half, Ottawa led 20-0.

OU's defense continued to be stingy and the Braves forced a Cottey punt. OU took over on the Comet 24 yard line with 2:01 left in the half.

It did not take long for the Braves to increase its lead, just one play. Carrera connected with Dos Santos for a 24 yard touchdown. The extra point attempt was good and OU led 27-0 at the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Braves were able to increase their lead at the start of the fourth quarter. Olivia Cadiz threw a 15 yard pass to Marley Spielberg, who lateralled the ball to Alyssa Linkous, who ran eight yards for the touchdown. The extra point attempt was no good and the Braves led 33-0 with 10:21 left in the game.

OU's defense forced a turnover on downs and the Brave offense took over in Cottey territory at the 25 yard line. Ottawa increased its lead with a five yard touchdown pass from Cadiz to Isabella Sosa and OU had a 39-0 lead with 4:23 left in the fourth quarter.

On Cottey's next offensive possession, OU forced another turnover on downs. Susann Kaufmann sacked the Comet quarterback and Ottawa took over on the CC 16 yard line with 1:45 left in the game.
Three plays later, Cadiz threw a two yard touchdown pass to Kailey Verhoeven. The extra point attempt was good and OU took the 46-0 victory.
