Softball Takes Game 2 Against (20) Benedictine

ATCHISON, Kan. – The Ottawa University softball team split its double header with (20) Benedictine College on Thursday afternoon. Ottawa fell 6-1 in game one but rebounded to take game two, 5-2.

Game One
The Braves struck first, taking the lead in the top of the first inning. Kara Hafenstine walked and advanced to second on a stolen base. Addison Spencer scored her with a double to center and OU had a 1-0 lead.

Benedictine answered with two runs in the bottom of the second, two in the bottom of the third and two in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-1 lead.

Ottawa tried to rally in the top of the seventh. OU had two reach base but were unable to get them home and Benedictine took the 6-1 victory.

Inside the Box Score Game Two
Benedictine took the early lead in the bottom of first inning, pushing two runs across home plate. Ottawa cut into the Raven lead in the top of the third.

Macy Roever led OU off with a bunt single. She moved into scoring position with a steal of second. Addison Spencer advanced Roever to third on an infield single. Roever scored on a Benedictine throwing error and Ottawa trailed 2-1.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Ottawa took its first lead of the game in the top of the fifth. Just like in the third, Roever reached first on a bunt single and then quickly swiped second. Spencer reached first in an error by the Raven first baseman and Roever moved 60 feet from home. Elizabeth Palmer scored Roever with a bunt and the Braves tied the game 2-2. OU took the lead on the very next at bat. Katie Enneking's ground out to second scored Spencer, giving OU the 3-2 lead.

In the top of the sixth, the Braves increased their lead over the Ravens. Cesara Roque reached first on an error by the BC second baseman and Natalyn Losoya entered the game as a pinch runner. Megan Kennedy scored Losoya with a triple to right, increasing the Brave lead to 4-2. Roever's bunt single scored Kennedy and Ottawa led 5-2.

In the bottom of the seventh it was three up and three down for the OU defense and the Braves took the 5-2 victory.

Inside the Box Score
  • Macy Roever was 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and two runs scored. She also had three stolen bases.
  • Emma Melvin had two hits in four at bats.
  • Cesara Roque pitched seven innings, not allowing an earned run in the win.

Ottawa (9-11) returns to the diamond on Saturday, March 8 at Alumni Park against Grand View University. Game one of the double header is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
