OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's volleyball team defeated (RV) William Penn University 3-0; 25-13, 26-24, 25-17; on Tuesday evening in the Mabee Center. The win was OU's 15
th this season which is tied for the second most victories in program history.
How it Happened
- Ottawa scored the first three points of set one to take the lead. A block by Akeil Williams and Marton Zarka gave the Braves a 10-5 lead. The Braves continued to hold their lead and after a kill by Marko Zolnjan, had a 18-8 advantage over the Statesmen. WPU never threatened the OU lead and the Braves took the 25-13 victory.
- The Braves opened set two with a 5-2 lead over William Penn. WPU chipped away at the OU lead and tied the set at eight all. Ottawa scored the next two points, taking a 10-8 lead on a kill by Kadeem Morris. The teams exchanged points and OU led 17-15. WPU rallied, scoring five straight points to take a 20-17 lead. Ottawa continued to cut into the Statesmen lead and scored the next two points to get within 20-19 after a Williams' kill. William Penn, however, continued to hold the lead and had the edge, 24-22. Ottawa answered by scoring the next four points taking the set on a Morris' block, 26-24.
- Ottawa took a 4-1 lead over Willam Penn in set three. A kill by Zolnjan gave the Braves an 11-9 lead. WPU scored the next three points, taking a 12-11 lead over the Braves. OU answered by scoring four straight, taking a 15-12 lead on a WPU attacking error, leading to a Statesmen timeout. A block by Morris gave the Braves a 20-14 lead, and the Statesmen took their second and final time out of the set. OU never surrendered its lead and the Braves took the 25-17 victory.
