OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University softball team split with the University of Saint Mary on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Park. The Spires took game 1, 3-1, while the Braves won game two, 10-1, in five innings. Game two pitcher
Cesara Roque threw her first collegiate no hitter in the win over USM and only allowed a walk. It was the 10
th no hitter in program history and the first since Casson Rasmussen threw a no hitter on April 2, 2022.
Game One
The Braves struck first, taking the lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Kara Hafenstine reached first on a walk and then swiped second.
Addison Spencer scored her with a single to left, giving OU a 1-0 lead.
After a scoreless second and third inning, Saint Mary tied the game in the top of the fourth, 1-1. The Spies took their first lead of the game with two runs in the top of the fifth, 3-1. The Braves were unable to rally and USM took the 3-1 victory.

Game Two
The Braves took the lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Kara Hafenstine hit an infield single and advanced to second with a stolen base.
Macy Roever's sacrifice bunt moved Hafenstine 60 feet from home. She crossed home plate on a wild pitch and the Braves led 1-0.
In the bottom of the second, the Braves scored five runs to increase their lead over the Spires.
Mallory Dunn singled up the middle.
Katie Enneking reached first on an error by the USM shortstop and the Braves had runners on first and second. Alex Genty scored Dunn with a double to left and OU led 2-0.
Megan Kennedy's double to left scored Enneking and Genty, giving the Braves a 4-0 lead.
After a USM pitching change, Hafenstine singled to center, scoring Kennedy to increase the OU lead to 5-0.
Emma Melvin's single up the middle scored Hafenstine and OU led 6-0.
The Spires scored one run in the top of the fourth, cutting OU's lead to 6-1. Ottawa answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, scoring those runs with two outs. Hafenstine walked and moved to third with a single to center by Roever. Roever stole second and
Addison Spencer walked, loading the bases for the Braves.
Melvin's walk scored Hafenstine and Ottawa led 7-1.
Zoe Butts followed that walk with one of her own, scoring Roever to give OU an 8-1 lead. The Braves scored their final two runs in the inning on a single down the left field line by Dunn. Her hit scored Spencer and Melvin and the Braves took the lead and the game, 10-1.
