Softball Sweeps Tabor

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University softball team swept Tabor College on Friday afternoon at Alumni Park. The Braves took game one in five innings, 9-1 and game two, 5-4.

Game One
Ottawa's offense scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead. Macy Roever reached first with a bunt single and then stole second. Addison Spencer singled to left, moving Roever to third. Roever gave the Braves the early lead with a steal of home, 1-0. Zoe Butts' double to left-center scored Spencer, increasing the OU lead to 2-0. Mallory Dunn followed Butts' double with one of her own, scoring Butts to give the Braves a 3-0 lead.

Katie Enneking increased the Brave lead to 4-0 with a single to center that scored Dunn. Alex Genty singled to right, moving Enneking to third. A triple to left by Megan Kennedy scored Enneking and Genty, giving OU a 6-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, the Braves increased their lead. Roever reached first with a bunt single and then stole second. Spencer's ground out to second moved Roever 60 feet from home. Butts scored Roever with a single up the middle and OU had a 7-0 lead. Ottawa scored a second time in the inning with a triple to right-center by Davanie Medina. Her hit scored Butts and the Braves led 8-0.

Tabor cut into the Brave lead with a run in the top of the third inning, 8-1. Ottawa earned that run back in the bottom of the third.

With two outs, Kara Hafenstine singled to left and then stole second. Roever reached first on a dropped fly ball by the TC centerfielder. Hafenstine was running with two outs, scored and OU had a 9-1 lead.
It was three up and three down for the OU defense in the fourth and fifth innings and Ottawa took the 9-1 victory.

Inside the Box Score Game Two
Tabor took the lead in the top of the first inning, 2-0. The Braves cut into the Bluejay lead in their bottom half of the inning. Kara Hafenstine singled to left and then moved to second with a stolen base. Addison Spencer doubled to left, scoring Hafenstine and the Braves trailed 2-1.

In the top of the third, the Bluejays extended their lead 4-1. Ottawa chipped away at the Tabor lead with two runs of its own in the bottom of the third.

Hafenstine reached first on a walk and then promptly moved to second with a stolen base. A Macy Roever walk put runners on first and second. Hafenstine and Roever both moved into scoring position with steals of second and third. A ground out to second by Spencer scored Hafenstine to put OU within 4-2. Butts' double to left scored Roever and Ottawa trailed 4-3.

After a scoreless fourth and fifth inning, Ottawa took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Elizabeth Palmer reached first on an error by the Tabor catcher. Dunn scored her with a double to left center and the game was tied, 4-4. Ottawa took the lead with Alex Genty's sacrifice bunt. Dunn crossed home plate and the Braves led 5-4.

A Bluejay reached first in the top of the seventh but the Braves did not allow the runner to cross home plate and OU took the 5-4 victory.

Ottawa (27-19, 17-7) returns to the diamond on Tuesday, April 22 at Southwestern College. Game one of the double header is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
