RIVERSIDE, Mo. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team took a 47-0 victory over the University of Saint Mary in the KCAC Tournament quarterfinals on Friday afternoon at the KC Current Practice Facility.
The Spires did not have the ball too long to start the game. On the second play of USM's drive,
Susann Kaufmann intercepted the USM quarterback and OU's offense was in business on the Spire 10 yard line.
Two play later, the Braves were in the end zone.
Madysen Carrera threw a five yard touchdown pass to
Alyssa Linkous. The extra point attempt by Carrera was good and OU had a 7-0 lead with 9:48 to go in the first quarter.
The OU defense forced a USM punt and Ottawa took over on the USM 31 yard line. OU's second offensive possession of the game ended like the first, in the end zone. Carrera threw a one yard touchdown pass to
Marley Spielberg. Carrera's extra point attempt was good and with 5:12 left in the first, Ottawa had a 14-0 lead.
Ottawa increased its lead over Saint Mary at the end of the second quarter. The Braves put together a three play, 25 yard scoring drive that ended in a touchdown pass from Carrera to Tatiana Dos Santos. Ottawa was not able to convert the extra point attempt and the Braves took a 20-0 lead into the locker room.
OU received the ball to start the second half and it did not take long for Ottawa to extend its lead. The Braves ended its drive with a 24 yard touchdown pass from Carrera to
Jazlyn Camacho. The extra point attempt was good and the Braves had a 27-0 lead.
The Braves forced a Spire punt on USM's first offensive possession of the second half and Ottawa took over on the USM 37 yard line with 3:50 to go in the third quarter.
Three plays and 37 yards later, OU crossed the goal line. Carrera threw a 12 yard touchdown pass to Camacho, giving the Braves a 33-0 lead.
Ottawa forced a USM turnover on downs and the Braves took over on the Spire 34 yard line. On the second play of OU's drive, Carrera threw a 22 yard touchdown pass to
Jaida Bayron. The Carrera extra point attempt was good and the Braves led 40-0.
The Braves scored one more touchdown in the game. Carrera threw a 19 yard touchdown pass to Camacho halfway through the fourth quarter, giving OU the lead and the game 47-0.
