Women's Flag Powers Past William Woods, 39-13

RIVERSIDE, Mo. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team defeated William Woods University 39-13 in the KCAC Tournament semifinals on Saturday afternoon.

The Braves struck first, taking the lead over the Owls. Ottawa's six play, 66 yard scoring drive ended in a two yard scramble by Madysen Carrera and the Braves had a 6-0 lead.

Ottawa's defense forced a William Woods punt and OU took over on its own 39 yards line with six minutes left in the first quarter. Four plays and 41 yards later, the Braves were in the end zone. Carrera threw a 22 yard touchdown paws to Alyssa Linkous. The Carrera extra point attempt was good and the Braves had a 13-0 lead.

The Brave defense forced a second straight WWU punt and Ottawa had the ball on its own 32 yard line. It only took one play for the Braves to cross the goal line. Carrera threw a 48 yard touchdown pass to Addison Orsborn. The Carrera PAT attempt was good and Ottawa led 20-0 with 8:47 to go in the second quarter.

Ottawa's defense forced a turnover on downs and the OU offense took over on its won 26 yard line with 3:25 left in the half. On the first play of the drive, Carrera completed a 54 yard touchdown pass to Linkous and the Braves lead 26-0.

OU's defense continued to apply the pressure, forcing another Owl punt and OU had the ball with 59 seconds left in the half. The Braves put together a three play, 45 yard scoring drive that ended in a 36 yard touchdown pass from Carrera to Marley Spielberg. The Carrera extra point attempt was good and Ottawa led 33-0 with 15 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

Two plays into the next WWU drive, Cynthia Homs intercepted the ball and OU took a 33-0 lead into the locker room.

The Owls received the ball to start the second half and put together a 12 play, 66 yard scoring drive. The extra point attempt was good and OU's lead was cut to 33-7.

WWU scored another touchdown at the start of the fourth quarter, cutting the OU lead to 33-13. The Braves scored one more touchdown in the contest. Olivia Cadiz threw a 14 yard touchdown pass to Linkous with 2:04 left in the game, giving OU a 39-13 lead.

OU's defense forced an Owl turnover on downs on WWU's final offensive possession of the game and the Braves took the 39-13 victory.
