BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – The Ottawa University baseball team fell 18-16 to (13) Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon in the regular season final.
Ottawa took the lead in the top of the third inning.
Julius Ryan led off with a home run, giving OU a 1-0 lead.
Shaun Gomez, Jr. walked and then moved to second with a single to right by
Jackson Alaniz.
Nicholas Sizemore was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for the Braves.
After an OKWU pitching change, Gomez gave the Braves a 2-0 lead, scoring on a wild pitch. The Braves then took advantage of an Eagle miscue and pushed two more runs across home plate to take a 4-0 lead. OU scored its final run of the inning on another OKWU error.
Jaquavius Davis scored on an error by the Eagle catcher and the Braves led 5-0.
OKWU scored a run in the bottom of the third and a run in the bottom of the fourth to get within 5-2 of the Braves.
The Braves increased their lead in the top of the fifth inning. Gomez walked and Alaniz connected on a home run, giving the Braves a 7-2 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth with OU leading 7-5, the game went into weather delay. When the game continued more then four hours later, OKWU rallied to tie the game at seven apiece.
OKWU rallied in the bottom of the seventh, scoring eight runs to take a 15-7 lead. Ottawa answered with nine runs in the top of the eighth to retake the lead 16-15. The Braves were unable to hold on to their lead in the bottom of the eighth. The Eagles scored three runs, taking the 18-16 victory.

Ottawa (38-12, 26-10) is the third seed in the KCAC Tournament that starts on Wednesday, April 30 in Joplin, Mo. The Braves will play Friends University at 10:00 a.m.
