OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team defeated Baker University 18-13 on Sunday morning at AdventHealth Field. The win was OU's 13
th straight this season and 22
nd overall, dating back to the 2024 season.
Baker deferred to the second half and the Braves received the ball to start the game. It didn't take long for OU to get into the end zone.
Madysen Carrera threw a 21 yard touchdown pass to
Marley Spielberg and OU had a 6-0 lead with 9:04 left in the first quarter.
The OU defense forced a Baker punt and Ottawa took over on its own 33 yard line. Baker's defense came away with a interception on the seventh play of the drive and the Wildcats took over on the Brave 27 yard line.
The Wildcats took advantage of the short field, putting together a five play, 21 yard scoring drive. The extra point attempt was good and Baker led 7-6 with 8:53 to go in the half.
That lead did not last long. Seven plays and 66 yards later OU retook the lead. Carrera threw a 25 yard touchdown pass to
Alyssa Linkous and OU led 12-7.
The OU defense held Baker on the Wildcats next offensive possession, forcing a turnover on downs and OU took a 12-7 lead into the locker room.
Baker retook the lead on its first possession of the second half. The extra point attempt was no good and with 7:16 left in the third, Baker led 13-12.
Ottawa turned the ball over on downs on its first offensive possession of the second half and Baker took over on the OU 36 yard line with 3:47 left in the third quarter.
The Wildcats drove the ball to the OU one yard line. The Brave defense did not allow Baker to cross the goal line, forcing a turnover on downs and the OU offense took over on its own five yard line with 9:03 left in the game.
The Braves retook the lead, putting together an eight play, 75 yard scoring drive. Carrera connected with Linkous for the second time in the game, giving OU the 18-13 lead with 4:40 left in the contest.
The OU defense came away with a big stop in the final four minutes of the game, forcing a turnover on downs. Ottawa's offense took over with 1:29 left in the game on the BU 28 yard line. The Braves ran out the clock, taking the 18-13 victory.
