STERLING, Kan. – The Ottawa University softball team split with Sterling College on Tuesday afternoon. Ottawa won game one, 6-3, while the Warriors took game two, 2-0.
Game One
Ottawa struck first, taking the lead in the top of the first inning.
Macy Roever reached first on a bunt single and then swiped second. A Warrior throwing error scored Roever and the Braves had a 1-0 lead.
Sterling tied the game in the bottom of the first, 1-1. Ottawa retook the lead in the top of the third.
Roever was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a steal. A single up the middle by
Addison Spencer scored Roever and Ottawa had a 2-1 lead. Ottawa increased its lead on a Sterling error. Spencer scored on a throwing error by the SC third baseman, giving the Braves a 3-1 lead.
Sterling tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, 3-3. Ottawa answered with two runs in the top of the sixth.
Kara Hafenstine walked and then stole second. Roever scored her with a single to right and OU led 4-3. Roever advanced to second on a stolen base, giving the Braves a runner in scoring position. Melvin singled up the middle, scoring Roever and Ottawa led 5-3.
Ottawa increased its lead over Sterling with a run in the top of the seventh. Alex Genty singled up the middle.
Megan Kennedy reached first on a SC error, advancing Genty to third.
Camryn Lenz's ground out to short scored Genty and Ottawa took the lead and the game, 6-3.
Inside the Box Score
- Emma Melvin had three hits in four plate appearances. She drove in two runs.
- Macy Roever was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and one RBI. She also stole three bases.
- Lanie Becker pitched seven innings in the win, striking out two.
Game Two
Sterling took the lead in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly, 1-0. The Warriors scored one more run in the game, pushing a run across home plate in the bottom of the sixth to take a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the seventh the Braves had runners on first and second but were unable to tie the game and Sterling took the 2-0 victory.
