Women's Flag Football Defeats KWU in Double Overtime 26-25

RIVERSIDE, Mo. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team defeated Kansas Wesleyan University, 26-25, in double overtime to move on to the NAIA Women's Flag Football Finals Semifinals on Wednesday morning. It was the fifth time that Ottawa and Kansas Wesleyan have played against each other this season. Ottawa is 5-0 in those games.

Kansas Wesleyan struck first, taking the early lead over the Braves in the first quarter. After an OU punt, KWU put together an 11 play, 46 yard drive that ended in a Chihiro Iwata touchdown pass to J. Whitfield. The extra point attempt by Iwata was good and the Coyotes led 7-0.

The Braves answered with a nine play, 66 yard drive that was capped off with a Madysen Carrera six yard touchdown pass to Marley Spielberg. The extra point attempt was no good and KWU had a 7-6 lead.

Ottawa didn't have to wait long to get the ball back. Teliyah McInnis intercepted Iwata's pass and OU's offense took over on the KWU 23 yard line.

The Brave offense took advantage of the good field position. Carrera threw a four yard touchdown pass to Titana Dos Santos. Carrera's extra point attempt was good and the Braves took a 13-7 lead into the locker room.

That is where the score stayed until 52 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. KWU scored on an Iwata touchdown pass to Aliyah Wood. The extra point attempt was no good and the game went into overtime tied 13 all.

Ottawa received the ball to start overtime and on fourth and eight, Carrera threw a touchdown pass to Dos Santos. The extra point attempt was no good and OU had a 19-13 lead.

Kansas Wesleyan tied the game on a Iwata touchdown pass to Whitfield. The extra point attempt was no good and the game went into a second overtime tied 19-19.

The Coyotes received the ball to start the second overtime period. Iwata threw a five yard touchdown pass to Angel Roman. The extra point attempt was no good and KWU led 25-19.

Ottawa quickly answered. On the second play of the Brave drive, Carrera connected with Spielberg, tying the game at 25 all. The Braves converted the extra point attempt, taking the 26-25 victory.
