OTTAWA, Kan. - The Ottawa men's soccer team picked up their first win of the season as they bested Missouri Baptist by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at AdventHealth Field.
Ottawa picked up where they left off last game in offensive aggression, drawing their third penalty of the season in the second minute, once again drawn by
Antonio Natalucci, and this time converted by
Alonso Basauri. Missouri Baptist equalized just over ten minutes later, as Matthew O'Reilly found Keegan Raney on a cross in the 15th minute. The Braves had many chances to take the lead back, including a shot by
Simon Kindt in the 26th minute that hit the right post, but were unable to finish. Ottawa broke through in the 51st minute, as
Arminas Gecas scored his first collegiate goal, assisted by
Drago Kecman. From there the scores remained the same, and Ottawa took home the 2-1 victory.
Ottawa led total shots thirteen to eight, but both teams took four shots on goal. The two teams were also even with corner kicks and fouls, with two and fifteen, respectively.
David Martinez made three saves en route to his first win as an Ottawa Brave.
Ottawa (1-0-1, 0-0-0 KCAC) returns to the field on Saturday, August 30 as they hit the road for the first time and travel to Oskaloosa, Iowa, for a non-conference clash at (2) William Penn. That match is scheduled to kick off at 5:00 PM.
