COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Ottawa women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season as they defeated Stephens by a score of 3-1 on Sunday evening in Columbia.
Ottawa struck first with a fifth minute goal by
Reece Young and assisted by
Riley Smith, which was Young's first collegiate goal. Stephens tied the game up at one apiece with a 32nd minute goal, 1-1 being the halftime score.
Cennet Oruc gave Ottawa the lead back in the 50th minute, and
Riley Smith provided 85th minute insurance with another goal.
Stephens led shots twelve to five and shots on goal nine to four.
Te'a Newcomb made eight saves in goal en route to her first win of the season. This win marks
James Cottage's first as the women's soccer coach at Ottawa.
Ottawa (1-2-1, 0-0-0 KCAC) returns to the field on Wednesday, September 17 as they travel to Leavenworth, Kansas for their KCAC opener at the University of Saint Mary. That game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM.
