HILLSBORO, Kan. – Ottawa University swept Tabor College in straight sets (25-16, 25-18, 25-23) on Saturday morning, using a balanced attack and steady defensive play to secure the road victory.
The Braves hit .219 as a team, finishing with 33 kills against just 10 errors.
Lillian Holden led the way with a team-high nine kills on .571 hitting, while
Campbell Stark and
Bailee Nickel each added seven kills.
Hollie Peters chipped in four kills, and
Samantha Stahl contributed three kills along with a service ace.
Ottawa's defense was anchored by libero
Carson Schuman, who recorded 14 digs, while setter
Madison Brauner added 13 assists and eight digs. The Braves also notched three service aces, highlighted by key runs from
Makela Martinez and Stahl in the opening two sets.
The Braves controlled the first two sets with strong serving pressure and timely kills. In the opening frame, Ottawa capitalized on a 7–0 scoring run fueled by Stark and Nickel to pull away for a 25–16 win. Set two followed a similar pattern, as Tabor struggled offensively (.-095 hitting in the set) while Holden and Nickel paced Ottawa to a 25–18 decision.
The third set proved to be the most competitive, with 12 ties and 6 lead changes. Holden and Stark delivered clutch kills down the stretch, and Stahl closed the match with a kill to seal the 25–23 win.
Tabor was led by Liana McGonigle (11 kills) and Carolina Goncalves (7 kills, 9 points total), but the Bluejays hit just .024 for the match with 28 errors compared to Ottawa's 10.
