Basball Downs Friends, 8-3

OU Takes the Series, 3-0

OTTAWA, Kan. - The bats came alive in the third inning and never looked back for the Ottawa University Braves, who rode a grand slam and aggressive baserunning to an 8–3 win over Friends University on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Park.

Play-by-Play Recap
Top 1st–2nd:
Friends threatened early, capitalizing on a bunt single and a pitcher's error in the first, then loading the bases in the third via walks and hit batters. But Ottawa pitching worked out of both jams, stranding five runners through the first three innings.

Bottom 3rd
After a walk to Jalen Ryan and another free pass to Dylan Snead, Jeremy Freeman, Jr. was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Julius Ryan then turned on a pitch and launched a grand slam to left field, clearing the bases and giving Ottawa a commanding four-run lead. It was the program's 20th grand slam.

Bottom 4th
Alejandro Paz singled and moved up on a sacrifice bunt. Jalen Ryan lifted a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Paz for a 5-0 advantage.

Bottom 6th
Ottawa added three more with small-ball execution:
  • Snead lifted a sac fly to score Paz.
  • Freeman singled home Jose Lopez.
  • Freeman stole second, and Jalen Ryan swiped home to cap the inning.
Top 9th
Friends avoided the shutout with a three-run ninth:
