SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Ottawa University softball team fell 9-1 in five innings to no. 16 Missouri Baptist University on Saturday afternoon at the NAIA SB Invite.
How It Happened
The Braves opened the game with a pair of quick defensive innings. In the bottom of the first, Ottawa erased an early walk with a heads-up fielder's choice to keep the game scoreless.
Missouri Baptist broke through in the second inning with a two-run homer to center, taking a 2-0 lead.
The third inning proved decisive. After a lead off out, the Spartans strung together key hits — including an RBI single and a bases-clearing triple — to push four runs across. Ottawa battled through adversity, forcing two ground outs to limit further damage.
Missouri Baptist added a run in the fourth, but the Braves continued to compete defensively, turning a double play to close the frame.
Ottawa answered in the fifth.
- Brookelynn Becker sparked the rally with a lead off double to center.
- Camryn Lenz followed with a sharp double to drive in Becker and put the Braves on the board.
Missouri Baptist responded with two runs in the bottom half, including a solo homer, to seal the 9-1 final.
