OTTAWA, Kan. – (20) Ottawa University stayed right in the fight for most of the afternoon, but a late surge by (17) Kansas Wesleyan University proved to be the difference as the Braves fell 12-5 at Alumni Park on Friday.
How It Happened
Kansas Wesleyan struck first in the third inning with a pair of runs, but Ottawa answered immediately. A clutch RBI single from
Dylan Snead cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Coyotes added another run in the fourth, but Ottawa's biggest push came in the sixth inning. The Braves strung together quality at-bats, highlighted by
Julius Ryan driving in a run and aggressive base running that led to a game-tying steal of home by Snead to make it 3-3.
Kansas Wesleyan retook the lead in the eighth 4-3. The decisive moment came in the ninth, when the Coyotes capitalized on opportunities and pushed across eight runs.
The Braves continued to compete to the final out, plating two runs in the bottom of the ninth on RBI from
Kaiden Hoapili and a sacrifice fly by
Garrett Dodd before falling 12-5.
