AVE MARIA, Fla. - The Ottawa women's lacrosse team were beat again as they fell to (9) Ave Maria, 22-11 on Tuesday evening in Florida.
Ave Maria took the lead and never surrendered it, leading 8-3 after the first quarter and 15-8 at halftime. The Gyrenes extended their lead with 4-1 and 3-2 third and fourth quarters.
Rilee Barnett and
Brianna Valadao led Ottawa with three goals each.
Faith Ruoff scored two goals,
Ashlyn Lopez,
KaiAnna Senne, and
Curstin Brown scored one each. Barnett, Valadao, Senne, Brown,
Makayla Mason, and
Hayden McIntosh made one assist each.
Saniya Watt made fourteen saves in goal for the Braves.
Ave Maria led total shots 38 to 24 and shots on goal 31 to fourteen. The Gyrenes collected 30 ground balls to Ottawa's 21. Ave Maria was 14 for 14 in clear attempts, Ottawa was 9 for 11. Ave Maria won 18 draw controls, Ottawa won 17.
Ottawa (0-5, O-0 HAAC) returns to the field on Saturday, March 14 as they head to Atchison, Kansas for their conference opener at Benedictine College. That game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.
