OTTAWA, Kan. — Ottawa controlled the game from start to finish on both sides of the ball, using a defensive touchdown and an efficient passing attack to defeat Hesston College, 27-7, on Wednesday evening at AdventHealth Field.
First Quarter
Ottawa wasted no time making an impact. After a Hesston drive moved into Braves territory,
Jukanie Washington stepped in front of a pass and returned it six yards for a touchdown, putting Ottawa up 7-0 after the PAT.
The Braves defense continued to apply pressure, limiting Hesston's offensive rhythm throughout the quarter.
Second Quarter
The Ottawa offense found its groove behind quarterback
Anna Anderson. She connected with
Alyssa Linkous on a 21-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 13-0.
Later in the quarter, Anderson capped another strong drive with a one-yard touchdown pass to Tatiana Dos Santos, pushing the advantage to 20-0.
Hesston responded late in the half with a one-yard quarterback keeper touchdown, but Ottawa still held a comfortable 20-7 lead at the break.
Third Quarter
The Braves put the game out of reach with a highlight-reel play. Anderson connected with
Olga Sotillo, who lateraled to
Mya Quinn for a 21-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 27-7.
The game was called due to lightning with 9:01 left in the third quarter, giving OU the 27-7 victory.
